About CET / NRA

The Common Eligibility Test (CET) is a revolutionary initiative by the Government of India, proposed in the Union Budget 2020-21. The National Recruitment Agency (NRA) was established to conduct this single eligibility test that would replace the preliminary/screening examinations conducted separately by SSC, IBPS, and RRBs. The goal is to simplify the recruitment process for government jobs.

CET aims to address the challenges faced by candidates who had to appear for multiple competitive exams with overlapping syllabi. Under the new system, a single CET score would be valid for screening-level recruitment across SSC (CGL, CHSL, MTS), IBPS (PO, Clerk), and RRBs (NTPC, Group D). This eliminates the need for candidates to travel to distant exam centers and pay multiple application fees.

The CET is proposed to be conducted at three levels — Graduate, Higher Secondary (12th), and Matriculate (10th) — covering both technical and non-technical posts. CET scores will be valid for 3 years, and candidates can appear multiple times to improve their scores. Exam centers are planned in all 733 districts of India.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CET and how is it different from SSC/IBPS?
CET (Common Eligibility Test) is a single screening exam that replaces the separate prelims exams of SSC, IBPS, and RRBs. Instead of appearing for 3-4 different prelims, candidates take one CET and use that score to apply for posts across all three agencies. It simplifies the process significantly.
Is CET score valid for multiple years?
Yes, CET scores will be valid for 3 years from the date of result declaration. Candidates can appear multiple times to improve their scores, and the best score will be considered for recruitment.
Will CET replace SSC CGL and IBPS PO completely?
No, CET only replaces the screening/prelims stage. After qualifying CET, candidates still need to appear for the respective Tier-2/Mains examinations conducted by SSC, IBPS, or RRBs for the specific posts they are interested in.
